At age 29, Karen Grant was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer which was present in both lungs was given just months to live. Karen was always a healthy active woman never showed symptoms, which is typical of this diagnosis.
Dr. David J. Sugarbaker, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital has pioneered an experimental treatment which has improved the chances of survival for many patients. Karen, who became the first person to be treated for Mesothelioma in both lungs is a pioneer in her own right.
