NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MAURITANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Tolba, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.



Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Tolba served in a variety of high-level positions in his country’s Ministry of Education from 1984 to 2002. In 2002, he was appointed Secretary-General of the National Ministry of Education. Subsequently, he became Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and later was also appointed as Minister of Communication and Relations with Parliament.



In 1984, Mr. Tolba graduated from the École Normale Supérieure de Nouakchott. He studied at the University of Dijon from 1992 to 1993, receiving a Master of Science in Education. In 1996, he received an Advanced Master’s Degree in the Development of Educational Policies from the Institut International de Planification in Paris.



Born on 31 December, 1962 at R’Kiz in Mauritania, Mr. Tolba is married and has two children.
