Retirement Reception To Honor Geneva Campus Ministry's Jason Chen

(2005-04-28)

A reception honoring Jason Chen on his retirement as director of the Geneva Campus Ministry at the University of Iowa will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 6 in the South Room of the Iowa Memorial Union.

A short program commemorating Chen's service to the university will be held at 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public, although those who plan to attend are asked to RSVP by calling 319-665-9647 by Monday, May 2.

Chen, a minister in the Christian Reformed Church, began the Geneva Campus Ministry program in 1971 as a traditional campus ministry program. In 1976, he added the Geneva Lecture Series, an annual series that brings noteworthy scholars to campus to lecture on the intersection of faith and learning. Those who have delivered a Geneva lecture include Paul Schrader, film director and screenwriter; Cornel West, philosopher and civil rights activist; and Alvin Plantinga, one of the founders of the field of bioethics.

The organization also sponsors the Finding God at Iowa series of monthly forums where UI faculty and staff members discuss the role faith plays in their life, teaching and scholarship.
