QODBC is a plug-in for accessing QuickBooks tables and reports using industry standard methods, bringing live accounting figures quickly and easily to the most popular desktop applications.
QODBC is a fully functional ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) driver that will read and write QuickBooks accounting files in a transparent manner using SQL in much the same fashion as other data drivers installed on standard PC’s. QODBC requires an ODBC compliant front-end application such as Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Delphi, Visual Basic, and Crystal Reports. Once installed, it allows these applications live data access to critical QuickBooks accounting data.
Remote access is included in this version, so a QuickBooks user is no longer required to have QuickBooks loaded on the same machine as QODBC and their application. A QuickBooks user can now be running anywhere - on a local area network, or even over the Internet, and has the ability to read and write the remote QuickBooks data via QODBC. A CPA or QuickBooks ProAdvisor can run reports directly from their clients QuickBooks, or enter repeating journal entries or other transactions without the need to transfer the data back and forth. Best of all the clients simply need to have the Free Basic Edition of QODBC installed on their machines to make this work.
Support for the QuickBooks Online Edition, a service based version of QuickBooks that runs in a web browser has been added in the latest version of QODBC. This innovative multi-user application does not require installation, upgrading or backup of your crucial accounting files, and the QODBC Version 5 driver can access the data with your application of choice as if the data were on your local machine. This innovative design will allow multiple remote users to all see the same information in the QuickBooks interface, as well as in the add-on tools and reports they may build specific to their business with QODBC.
One of the major issues that Intuit has addressed in QuickBooks 2005 is the ability to limit response data returned from add, modify, and query operations to specified field(s). This eliminates time spent handling unwanted data and decreases memory requirements, which had been an issue with the previous versions of QuickBooks application interface (SDK). It also increases the response speed of QODBC, which acts as a wrapper to all of the functions available via QuickBooks. Using Intuit’s fully supported application interface to QuickBooks allows tools like QODBC to respect all security, integrity and business logic rules embedded in the QuickBooks application.
